Maulana Rumi, steeped in Islamic jurisprudence, theology, and Persian poetry, lived in the 13th century. A renowned speaker, jurist, and theologian, he blazed a trail of incandescent verse, inspiring many far and wide with his birth in Balkh (now Afghanistan) on September 30, 1207, and his passing in Konya, Turkey, on December 17, 1273.
